Happy Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day to all of the Fathers, Step dads, father figures, and any other man who deserves a hallmark card today. Earlier, I was looking on twitter (just BS’n for 20 minutes) when I noticed a slew of “I’m tired of all this father’s day hate” type tweets (alliteration fo dat a**…sorta) on my TL. I personally didn’t see any hate tweets, but I did see the responses; which implied that there were, in fact, people out there slandering baby daddies, and no-show fathers. That kinda sucks. There’s only one day to celebrate the Fathers- why must folks hate on them on this day….aren’t there like 364 (365 every 4 years) days to throw mud on a dead-beat dad……? I digress. This post is purely a s/o to the dads out there handling their business as best as they can. Here are a few songs that came to mind that I jam on the regular:

1. Glory- Jay Z f. BiC. this has to be the biggest subliminal record of 2012. Actually, if you want the full effect, then you must listen to “Beach Chair” which would make this subliminal record date back to 06. It’s my theory that Jigga J and Bey (or maybe some other woman involved with Jigga?) experienced a miscarriage. That’s tough, on some real sh!t. But once you dig into each song, you’ll soon realize that Word Smith aint talking silliness. Try it.

2. Mockingbird- Eminem. this is pure “Ima give you the world, baby girl” from Em. I like it….but there is a better song out there that I jam more regularly by Em. (id. at 5.)

3. Just the two of us- Will Smith. yeh…Big Willie Style had a few gems. But “Just The Two Of Us” is an actual classic simply because it talks about father son relationships. Salute

4. Isn’t she lovely- Stevie Wonder. We all know this is about the birth of his daughter, Aisha. She’s one of his back up singers. I heard from a reliable source (Thanks, Pop) that at ACL, he was introducing stage personnel (drummers, guitarist, singers)…and when it was time to introduce Aisha, he flipped the beat and started playing this song. s/o to Daddy’s Little Girl getting the special treatment.

5. Hailie’s Song- Eminem. “Yo…I can’t sing, but I feel like singing….I wanna Fn sing. Because I’m happy”…uuuummmmmmm Any dad earns the right to sing about their children. period. #CLASSIC

6. New Day- The Throne. this is….#EPIC. This is probably the most personal song on Watch The Throne where Jay and Ye both talk to their unborn sons. Both offer good advice that stems from the “Don’t make the same mistakes I did growing up” speech. It’s real. Real recognize real….and real gon speak!

7. Our First Born- Ginuwine. that “IM THE DADDY! IM THE FATHER!” line is crucial. It gets me every time. Im thinking, “Go ‘head, young brotha! Handle yo ‘sponsibilites.”

8. Prayer for you- Usher. although the album was a dud, this song actually kept me interested. Plus, I fully support any father talking about his children. I like kids. sue me.

9. Heaven- Jamie Foxx. if you start with pianos, you’d better wreck dat sh!t, B. On the cool, this song hits the spot. Bravo, Eric Marlon Bishop <-Huh? LOL

And my all time favorite Daddy’s day song, *Drum roll*

10. Like Father, Like Son- The Game. “June 30th, 11:07 I got that call. She’s 8 cm, my little man’s about to fall!” The amount of detail and description of that entire scene brings everything to life. I felt like I was right there in the delivery room with Game…in an un-weird, non perverted un-disrespectful way. But really, this is a great song. And having Busta Rhymes on the hook was damn near genius! The quirky ad-libs alone set the song into the hall of fame. Thugs got soft spots too…even the fake ones @TheGame

There you have it, folks. Enjoy the list. Give the songs a listen if you haven’t already. Feel free to give suggestions of your own.

NOTE: The only song worth prioritizing is “Like Father Like Son. 1-9 are in no particular order. And why come there are almost NO songs about how great a father has been. No “Thanks dad for teaching me how to…” rap songs. Shaking My Fn Head. Correct me if I’m wrong…I really hope I’m wrong.

Jay Z And Kanye West (Finally) Release A Visual For The Opening Track On The Biggest Collabo Since Peanut Butter And Jelly Dropped Their First Single. But Really Though, This Visual Gives Folks An Interesting Interpretation. At What Point Does The Authority Become The Mob? What’s A Molotov Cocktail Thrown By An Angry Civilian To A Smoke Bomb Shot From The Barrel Of The NYPD? What’s A Cop Killer To A Village Massacre? What’s A Non Violent Sit-In To Vicious Officer Retaliation?
